Entertainment Jobs on a Cruise Ship

Entertainment Jobs on a Cruise Ship

Are you extroverted? Do you like to entertain and make others happy? Then applying for an entertainment job aboard a cruise ship might just be the thing for you. There are a whole slew of positions that you can apply for, as enumerated below.

Cruise ship director

This is the top of the food chain in the entertainment department. Most cruise lines will only hire someone for this position if they've previously been an assistant cruise director. This person is responsible for overseeing and supervising the entire entertainment department, which also includes administrative functions. The cruise ship director needs to be an entertainer as well, as they will be expected to perform a few times per week.

Assistant cruise director

This person is basically the right hand man of the cruise director. He or she is responsible for creating a warm, friendly atmosphere on the ship and has direct contact with all passengers. The assistant also pitches in with supervising of staff and the coordination of all entertainment venues and activities.

Casino staff

If you're looking for a plum job, then this is it. Casino staff enjoy the thrill of working in a casino environment, while being able to have more free time than most cruise personnel. That's because casinos are usually closed when the ship is docked at the different ports of call. These positions require at least three years of experience in working in a casino on land. Some of these positions include casino hosts, dealers, cashiers and slot machine technicians to name a few.

Entertainer

These positions include any type of entertainer that might be needed on board, such as a comedian, musician or dancer. You'll be expected to provide a copy of your work using an audio or video presentation. Comedians, if hired, are expected to have material for three 30-minute performances.

DJs

Though it might look easy, not everyone can be a DJ. It's best if you have previous experience within the hospitality industry and experience in setting up DJ equipment.

Host/hostess

If you enjoy socializing and meeting new people, this position might suit you. Besides a friendly disposition, there is no real previous experience required. You'll be expected to greet all passengers when boarding and disembarking, to assist shore excursion staff and to help arrange parties and special events on board.

Luxury cruise lines advertise cruise deals throughout the year that make luxury cruising affordable.
