Is Working on a Cruise Ship Really for you?
Neil Maxwell-Keys
It's nice to think about all the great positives of life working and living onboard a cruise ship, but have you ever considered whether or not you're actually cut out for "the cruise ship lifestyle"? And I'm not talking about the 'benefits and negatives' of life onboard here. What I mean is, are YOU really suited to life living and working at sea? And not everybody is. A guy I once interviewed (who looked great on paper), mentioned in his interview that he wanted his own cabin, he preferred being alone than mixing with other people and that he would rather visit the salad bar than the crew bar. Needless to say he didn't get the job! And I did him a favor. This guy would have HATED every minute of life onboard. So it doesn't matter how great you are in a particular land-based job. You could still find that life at sea just isn't for you. What's more, through years of experience cruise lines tend to know exactly the types of people who are suitable for a job at sea. And who to weed out - no matter how brilliant they appear on paper or at the interview. You see, the very worst thing that could happen would be for you to give up a secure job, house or even relationship, then fly out to join your ship, only to find that you just cannot adjust to life onboard. To help determine whether or not the cruise ship lifestyle is for you, we've put together a special checklist that asks 9 powerful, but crucial questions, to determine whether or not you're suitable for life at sea.
